Easy Trick to get Latitude & Longitude

This is a handy trick for anyone that needs either decimal or regular latitude and longitude coordinates.

Firstly, you should go to maps.google.ca and find the location that you’d like to pinpoint.

  • When you’ve found the spot that you’d like, move the mouse over it and right click, this will bring up the context menu.
  • Select “What’s Here?”
  • Google Maps will automatically centre the map and tell you the latitude and longitude
    • Decimal version in the search box (latitude first, then longitude)
    • Regular version (with Degrees°Minutes’Seconds” ) in the  dropdown box

You can now use this latitude and longitude to plug into your GPS or mapping software (especially handy for Realtors!)

When one man pinged the whole internet

A man by the name of HD Moore, a computer security specialist, tried an experiment on his own a few weeks back. The aim of the experiment was to probe as many computers/devices as possible, and see what the results were. Moore pinged all 3.7 billion IP V4 address’ available through a clever program that he wrote, and the results returned 310 million devices with well known security flaws. Things like default passwords, admin/admin for username/password or even no passwords at all!

Moore’s experiments wasn’t exactly legal, but if you read his methodology, it’s not as though any harm was intended or came from the experiment, he was searching for an overarching view of the security status of the internet, and it’s bad. Make sure to change your passwords regularly and keep your software up to date!

Ever wonder how searching the internet works?

At Incite promo, some of the most frequent questions we get asked are how search works, why is my page rank what it is, and what should our pages include for search engine optimizations. Gone are the old days of SEO, keyword stuffing, giant meta tag lists, and hidden content (people used to actually put giant lists of keywords just off screen for crawlers like alta vista to find.)

Search engines are smart, and way bigger than you might imagine. The index that Google maintains is over 100 million gigabytesand contains over 30 trillion pages it’s astounding to think that they are able to bring relevant results as you type them, let alone results that you really want.

If you’re interested, Google’s put together a great presentation page on how their search engine works at the link! If you have any questions about how to optimize your site for better search ranking, please give us a shout!
